Sysex Base is a MIDI sysex file manager for iPhone and iPad. Back up your synth sounds, organize libraries, and load them back onto your synths! Designed to be quick and easy to use.

Some of the features:

- Record and send sysex data via a connected MIDI interface, or wireless or Bluetooth MIDI
- Organize your sysex files into folders, rename them, delete them, etc.
- Adjustable transmit speed, for working with older hardware
- Automatically back up your sysex files using iCloud
- Open sysex files from other apps such as Mail, Dropbox, Google Drive
- Export sysex files to other apps just as easily
- Quickly view the data inside of a sysex file, including the individual bytes, the Manufacturer indicated, the file size, and the number of sysex messages in the file

Also, Sysex Base allows you to record incoming sysex data and transmit sysex to your synth at the same time! So you can even do backups of older synths (such as the Casio CZ series) that require a message to be sent to them to trigger a data dump. These trigger files can be saved within Sysex Base like any other file.

Pros and cons of Sysex Base app for iPhone and iPad

Sysex Base app good for

For what I needed - send sysex from the ipad to my YAMAHA DX7s - the app worked just fine. Midi device used: iRig Midi. Congrats!
Solid way to send system files to your hardware synths. Doesnt seem to crash ever. Very basic, but it does what you need it to do. Itd be great if it could edit system, but you cant have it all.

Some bad moments

Recorded a 4.2 MB Sysex file and now the app always crashes on launch. This might an extreme use case but its effectively unusable for me.
The app will not successfully load no matter what Ive tried. Like the other review stated, it is basically unusable.
What a great buy, worth every penny! I use iPad in a performing rig with hardware keyboards and sound modules. As of this writing I use iPad 2 and iOS 7.0.4. Sysex Base not only backs up and restores my hardware user program banks, but the Open In function lets me import new banks from my libraries in Dropbox, GoogleDrive and other locations. I can easily save and sort all my content in Sysex Base file structure which is easy to setup and use. This is a great addition to my iPad synths, DAW and controller apps. Developer is quick to respond to questions. MUST HAVE app for anyone using a mix of iPad and hardware devices!
